MAH Calmer

Can I give my horse too much MAH Calmer?
No, if you give your horse more than he requires he will simply excrete the excess out in his urine.

Is the MAH Calmer safe to give along side other supplements or drugs?
Yes, the calmer is entirely safe and will not interact with any other medication your horse is receiving.

How do I feed the MAH Calmer?
The liquid goes on the daily feed, it has no odour so most fussy feeders are happy to eat it. It must be put on the food just before feeding so that it does not have chance to soak into the feed.

The MAH Calmer Plus Syringes are administered orally in the same way you would a wormer paste. For best results give 1 1/2 hours (90 mins) before needed, when stood quietly without food or hay. If you are not using the daily liquid we normally advise to give one syrigne 3 hours before and another 1 1/2 hours before although for many horses one is enough.

What is MAH?
MAH is a uniquely developed form of magnesium. This compound has been shown to provide far higher levels of absorption than any other magnesium compound which is the key to its effectiveness.

What are the MAH Calmer Plus Syringes?
These are a concentrated form of the liquid which makes them more effective and faster  to absorb. Ideal for use in competition or for times of extra stress. They can be used independently or in conjunction with the liquid.

I have given my horse other calmers containing magnesium but have not seen an improvement, does that mean that this will not work either?
Not at all, we have many many customers that now swear by Nupafeed MAH who origionaly came to us with this question! MAH has been especially developed to maximise the absorption of magnesium into body tissue and delivers significantly more magnesium into the tissue than other magnesium compounds. The MAH magnesium used is of a pharmaceutical grade, which is far superior to the grade of magnesium used in most other calmers. Nupafeed MAH Calmer is also a liquid which helps to improve absorption.

I need my horse responsive and alert, will the MAH calmer compromise performance?
No, the calmer works purely by providing your horse with the magnesium that he needs in order to maintain the correct magnesium/calcium within his body. Having the correct balance prevents adrenalin rising, muscle tension and aggression. It contains no other compounds such as herbs or L-Tryptophan, which act as mild sedatives. Performance should improve as reduced tension allows the horse to listen to what is being asked of him.

How long does the MAH Calmer take to work?
This varies greatly with each horse depending on how long they have been having problems, how much work they do and how stressful they are day to day. Most horses require 5-10 days on the loading dose before a significant improvement is seen.

The syringes can be used alone just on the day of competition.

What sizes does the MAH Calmer come in and how long do they last?
Nupafeed MAH Calmer is available in three sizes:-
1 litre - this would last the average horse approx 40 days.
3 litre - this would last the average horse approx 4 months
5 litre - this would last approx 6-7 months

The above guides are based on the average daily maintainence levels only, if you use extra liquid prior to competitions this will shorten how long your bottle lasts. Also, please note that your first 1 litre will be used quickly due to the loading dose.

Flex GLM

Why is Flex GLM different from other joint supplements?

Flex GLM contains Green Lipped Mussel which not only contains natural organic Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulphates which scientists consider superior to the shell fish derived compounds which make up the basis of most joint supplements, but it also contains the right balance of minerals, amino acids and long chain fatty acids, including omega 3. This means that Flex GLM not only provides excellent nourishment for the joints but it is also an effective anti-inflammatory which is highly important.

How long will it take to see an improvement in my horse?

This depends on the severity of your horse’s symptoms and the amount of work being done but most horses will improve within 2 weeks to 1 month.

My horse is not showing symptoms of joint wear but I worry that it will become a problem for him in the future, is there any point feeding the supplement before problems occur?

Yes, if you worry that joint problems are likely to occur because of your horses type or the work he is doing, then supplementing with Flex GLM may be very beneficial especially as the early stages of joint wear may not result in obvious symptoms, or they may only be sporadic. Providing the joints with the right nourishment helps them to repair and maintain themselves and should prevent or at least delay the onset of symptoms.

Have the beneficial effects of Green Lipped Mussel been proven?

Yes, there is extensive research in many species that have shown Green Lipped Mussel to be effective in cases of joint degradation which is why it is commonly used in human medicine for arthritis and similar symptoms. There are many other beneficial effects other than inflammatory conditions, such as asthma and stomach ulcers, and research is still ongoing.

Can I feed too much Flex GLM?

The Flex GLM contains selenium, which is a powerful anti-oxidant and very good for your horse. Feeding a generous amount for the size of your horse will be fine but excessive amounts should not be given and you should take this into account if you are feeding other supplements containing selenium. Always
adhere  to the recommended dosage levels.

Is the Flex GLM safe to feed with other supplements and medicines?

Yes, you only need to be aware of the selenium content in the other supplements.

What sizes does the Nupafeed Flex GLM come in and how long they do they last?
Nupafeed Flex GLM is available in two sizes:-
2Kg - lasts approx 1 month
4kg - lasts approx 2 months

Staying Power

How do I feed Staying Power?
Staying Power is a clear liquid which goes on the daily feed. It’s odour is faint and only small amounts are required so fussy feeders normally don’t notice.

The Staying Power syringes contain the same liquid but it is stronger and more concentrated making them ideal for use in competition or for one-off eventualities. The syringes are given orally in the same way you would a wormer paste.

How long does the Staying Power take to work?
The benefit of Staying Power should be seen as soon as you start feeding the product but absorption time is quite long and variable. The Staying Power works faster on those with a high percentage body fat and on those being worked in as the work enables the L-Carnitine to circulate thoroughly.

For horses that struggle with daily work or lack strength:
We recommend that the liquid be fed twice a day to maintain a constant level in the body. This amount can be doubled the day before and morning of competition.

For specific days such as lessons or competition: Either use the liquid giving a double dose the day before and morning of or use the syringes - these take 3 - 4 hours to absorb, if you need them for very early in the morning it is best to feed them as late as possible the evening before.

Can I feed too much Staying Power?
No, Nupafeed Staying Power is entirely safe; your horse will excrete what he does not use.

Is Staying Power safe to feed along side other supplements or medications?
Yes, it will not react or interfere with any other medication you may be giving your horse.

Why does Staying Power contain MAH?
The MAH content of the Staying Power is critical, it acts as a carrier allowing the L-Carnitine to be absorbed into the working muscles. Previous attempts to use L-Carnitine in horses have been made but with very little success because despite levels being increased in the blood, the amount actually in the muscle tissue was unaltered.

My horse lacks stamina but is often quite ‘fresh’, will Staying Power make him sharper?
Not at all, Staying Power has no heating effect whatsoever, you will see the improvement at the point when normally he would be starting to tire. It is not uncommone for customers to use Staying Power and the MAH Calmer on the same horse - this is ideal for horses that come out very sharp and wound-up but run out of energy.

How can staying power improve muscle mass and definition if it does not contain protein or some sort of calorific advantage?
L-Carnitine acts as a trigger for muscle growth and improves the efficiency of energy turn over by mobilising fat stores, making glucose readily available in the cells to make energy. During hard work, normal glucose metabolism often does not provide enough energy and other substrates are used. Improving glucose metabolism not only spares these other substrates which are required for muscle growth and repair, but also reduces the amount of harmful toxins produced during hard work so less muscle damage occurs. The horse can perform more work allowing more muscle to be built without the usual tissue damage.

Has L-Carnitine actually been proven to improve stallion fertility?
Yes, L-Carnitine has been proven to improve parameters of sperm formation and motility in many species including stallions.
